Igreja Matriz de Carrancas/Church of Carrancas

No post anterior, sobre Carrancas, falei sobre a influência da igreja na cidade e por isso, resolvi destacar, num post à parte, a Igreja Matriz de Carrancas – A Igreja Nossa Senhora da Conceição.

Essa igreja foi construída em 1718 e mantém, ainda hoje, suas estruturas originais.

Vista de fora, a igreja não cativa tanto assim, mas internamente, os detalhes das pinturas no teto e seu altar com decorações em ouro impressionam.

Há duas curiosidades sobre essa igreja. A primeira, é o fato de suas duas torres terem formatos distintos. Não por intenção, mas por algum erro na construção.

E a segunda, é que nesta igreja o pai do Serginho, nosso guia local, casou-se. Bem, até aí, nada de novo, porém ele casou-se duas vezes e com a mesma mulher. Isso porque, o primeiro casamento foi realizado por um falso padre e teve que ser anulado em julho/1977. Enfim, histórias de Carrancas.

In my previous post about Carrancas, I spoke about the influence of the church in the town. That´s why I decided to present one post specially for the Church of Carrancas.

This church was built in 1718 and it presents its original structure until today.

Looking at it from the outside, it is not a captivating building. However, the details of the painted roof and gold decoration of the altar is impressive.

There are two nice facts about this church. One, is the fact that it presents two different formats of tower in the front part. It was not built this way intentionally, but by a mistake.

And the second, is the fact that Serginho´s father (our tour guide´s father) has got married here. But not once, but twice. And with the same woman. It happened because the first marriage ceremony was cancelled as the Priest was a false one. It happened in july/1977.
