De todos os Ingleses com quem conversei e comentei que Bath estava no meu roteiro, ouvia frases de encantamento por visitar uma cidade tão especial. A percepção é que os ingleses tem profundo carinho por Bath e chegando lá, entendi o porquê.

De início, conheci um simpático senhor ao descer do ônibus que, ao perceber que eu era um turista, puxou conversa e começou a me dar dicas da cidade, onde ir, o que visitar. Uma receptividade sem igual!

Bath, na realidade, não é uma cidade inglesa… é uma cidade romana. A cidade tem toda a sua arquitetura em estilo romano – as moradias, os parques, os prédios em geral. E não poderia ser diferente. Bath foi uma importante cidade do império Romano e tem uma belíssima catedral no meio de uma praça que fica ao lado de um dos principais pontos turísticos da cidade – as termas romanas de Bath.

Essas termas encontram-se num prédio cuja a arquitetura é belíssima (vejam as fotos) e o mais interessante é que foram as primeiras e únicas termas na Inglaterra e foram “descobertas” pelos Celtas. A construção feita pelos romanos e depois reconstruída pelos Saxões.

Além das termas, vale a pena caminhar pela cidade até o Circus e o Royal Crescent – conjunto de residências que fica numa parte alta da cidade. A construção é incrível e a vista da cidade nos dá a perfeita idéia do como era Bath na época em que era um reino.

Dica: não deixem de experimentar o maravilhoso cookie de chocolate da loja Ben´s Cookies – próxima a catedral.
E se alguém for de Salisbury para Bath, assim como eu fiz, pegue o ônibus circular e vá desfrutando das pequenas cidades pelo percurso…e o mais legal… é mais barato que o trem!

All English I talked to about Bath told me how amazing this city is and that I should not leave England without visiting it. My perception is that English people have special feelings for Bath and I knew why when I get there.
First of all, I met a very sympathetic Sir who started talking to me as soon as I got off the bus. As he noticed I was a tourist, he started giving me special hints about the city, where to visit, with such a great pleasure. What a nice arrival!

Bath, in fact, is not an English city. It´s a Roman one. The architecture of the city presents the Roman style everywhere and it couldn´t be different. Bath was an important city during the Roman Empire period and has a great Cathedral which stands besides one of the most important attraction – the Roman Baths!

These Roman Baths are in a beautiful building (see the pictures). It´s the only Britain hot spring and it was “discovered” by the Celts. The building was first built by the Romans and then rebuilt by the Saxons.

After leaving the Baths, it´s worth to walk around the city until the Circus and the Royal Crescent – a group of houses, which are in a higher area of the city. The buildings are great and the view from the city give us a perfect idea of how the city was in the past, surrounded by the buildings.

Hint: if you enjoy cookies, you must taste Ben´s Cookies – a cookie shop near Bath Abbey.
And if someone goes from Salisbury to Bath, as I did, go by bus and enjoy the view of the towns and villages along the way. And it´s cheaper than by train!
