Itararé – São Paulo – 1o. dia / Day 1

O roteiro do primeiro dia contemplou:

  • Cânion do Pirituba:

  • Piscinas naturais:

My carnival this year was completely different from 2010´s, it means, nothing related to Brazilian carnival at all.

There I was again to a place full of adventure, trails and waterfalls in Itarare, a small town in Sao Paulo countryside (345 km far from Sao Paulo city) and near the border of Parana state (through Senges town).

There I was again travelling with Pisa Trekking Tour Agency. And at the meeting point I met our tour guide Ricardo Roitburd who was the guide when I travelled to Ilha do Mel (my first trip organised by Pisa Trekking). It´s always nice to meet trekking mates!

For those who think this kind of activity is a kind of “lonely activity” because of carnival time, I have to say IT`S NOT! The group had 36 people full of energy and animation for 4 days of adventure (by the way, it was an amazing group in fact. Nice conversation, lots of fun and great mood of everyone).

One member of the group deserves a special mention and he is Ricardo (another one), our guide from Rastur Agency from Itarare whom I nicknamed Curumim (it´s the name of character from a cartoon who was an indian child). He is priceless. His folk tales were examples of pure entertainment.

We arrived in Itarare one hour and half later than expected (3:30 am), however considering it was friday of Carnival and everybody was on the road, it was not a problem at all.  So it was not a big trouble at all as everybody got up early and at 9 o´clock there we were on the road for our first activity of that day.

The itinerary of the first day included:

  • Canyon of Pirituba:

It was as not beautiful as the canyon we´ve seen in the 3rd day, nevertheless, it was a great place to visit.

Surrounded by trees presenting a great variety of green  and some yellow colours, intertwined by rocks, this canyon was the invigorating beginning we all needed that morning.

Contemplate all the nature from the top of that 60m height canyon was amazing.

Completing the environment, there is Invernada waterfalls. This is a 30m height waterfall and, unfortunately, we had to admire it by distance.

  • Natural pools

After leaving the canyon of  Pirituba we aimed to our first swimming moment in some natural pools in a river near the canyon.

  • “The Chicken and The Camel” Stones

And to finish the day, we walk to “The Chicken and The Camel” stones. The stones have these names because they remind us of those animals.

After reaching the stones, we aimed the top of “The Chicken” one, so we could admire the whole landscape from its top.

It must be noted that the way to go up to the top of “The Chicken” stone is really narrow hole, so we could have a kind of “being an egg” situation, if you know what I mean.

If you need any other information, access the Itarare City Hall website.
